RoboCop [1987]

“Serve the public trust, protect the innocent, uphold the law.”

Similar propaganda/TV shots throughout, satirical, energetic & goofy af. The timing of this & other films of the decade which questioned whether we can really trust technology is unsurprising, though I suspect the messaging will be lost in the coming decades to younger generations. People call this Verhoeven's masterpiece; in my mind he took some great ideas from this crudely put together film onto his other films which I think were far superior. That said, enjoyed it. Some great moments & one-liners. Robo suit still looks pretty impressive. I can see why it has influenced the industry so much.

Starship Troopers [1997]

“Everybody fights, no one quits. If you don’t do your job, I’ll kill you myself.”

Image description: The image says the following: Directors: Paul Verhoeven / Genres: Sci-fi Action Adventure / Year: 1997 / Rating: ****_ / Review: Great pacing. It kept me hooked from start to finish. Satirical and at times goofy (even in the pretty dark moments); this film presents like humorous war propoganda. Some aspects of the film seem a little dated, but otherwise has a refreshingly feminist take for such a film (the lead female characters get into the academy through their own merit and are seen as peers and not inferior to male soldiers/pilots, and though there is obvious sexual tension between genders, the ending is not romantically focused).
Feels like it ends abruptly, but it's also the right ending. Would recommend.
