The One [2001]

“After this, there will be only one.”

Image description: The image says the following: Directors: James Wong / Genres: Sci-fi Action / Year: 2001 / Rating: **___ / Review: Utterly ridiculous, nonsensical & very fun. The nu-metal syncronised fight scenes dates the movie, making it feel very much like a time capsule. Scenes are over-acted. It's a film that knows unequivocally that it's not a serious film; that it’s never gonna win oscars. However, did I enjoy every minute of it? Absolutely. Technically a two star film, but a five star film of the heart.

A Trip to the Moon aka La voyage dans la lune [1902]

**insert visual of a space rocket hitting the moon in the eye**

Image description: The image says the following: Directors: Georges Méliès / Genres: Sci-fi Action Adventure / Year: 1902 / Rating: ****_ / Review: This 1902 theatrical, black & white, silent & short film is a delightful and quaint watch. The version I watched was a restored, hand-coloured one and I can see why it is so loved, and so influential. Not much to the story; scientists arrange to launch a rocket to the moon and back, but you can tell it's peppered with pretty humorous, archaic anecdotes about space travel given what we know about it today! Well worth a watch; though it's impossible to measure it against modern day blockbusters. Would still recommend.
