“You should know the locals here are pretty weird.”

Excellent casting. Gripping storyline. Felt like an adult/supernatural version of NeverEnding story where you feel super connected with their world, almost like you are in the story with them. The twist right at the end left me pretty destroyed. I will never forgive Netflix for cancelling this; watch this gem before it is gone for good.
“B-6. It doesn’t make you happy or hungry or horny. It makes you do as you’re told.”

I liked how this film inadvertently highlighted the lack of human rights attributed to people placed in jail through the actions of the unhinged, unethical scientist played by Chris Hemsworth, though I doubt the intention was to be so topical. Unfortunately I just felt like I knew exactly what was gonna happen, so I wouldn’t watch it again.
“Human evolution is the concern. That it’s going wrong. That it’s uncontrolled, it’s insurrectional. It might lead us to a bad place.”
Image description: The image says the following: Directors: David Cronenberg / Genres: Sci-fi Horror Surreal / Year: 2022 / Rating: *____ / Review: It’s all quite Cronenberg, isn’t it. I think if you’re a fan of his style of film then there will be something here for you, but if not you will find it full of plot holes, and a grotesque, dull slog of a film. Interesting concept. Poorly executed. Too much time spent attempting to be provocative & nowhere near enough time spent on storyline. This film cost $27 million to make, was a flop at box office and for what? Did it need to be made? No. Would absolutely not recommend. Unless you want to spend about 2 hrs asking yourself why.

I thought it was excellently well done. It takes a medium like felt which is playful, and transforms it into something nightmarishly surreal. Not to mention how well it tackles and navigates serious or complicated human emotions. Really enjoyed this. It’s an excellent film.

Extraordinary CGI. Gripping. Good use of untrustworthy narrator. Conclusion felt surprisingly speedy after spending the whole film thinking is she gonna make it. A good watch but I can’t shake the feeling I just watched a two hour film of someone stuck in a box. Thumbs up.
“Our scars can destroy us, even after the physical wounds have healed. But if we survive them, they can transform us. They can give us the power to endure, and the strength to fight.”

I went into this film with very high expectations & came out thoroughly surprised. Appreciated the down-to-earth focus on crime lords (Joker/Harley Quinn rhetoric has become a bit played out). Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman did not disappoint (which I know fans were anxious about). Bit slow though. Intrigued to see where this Batman journey goes.

Bale was incredible & so spooky. I enjoyed Portman’s storyline in this film, and think it closed the romantic door nicely. Overall thought it was a fun watch, but this film suffers immensely from being in the shadow of Ragnarok.
