“Every time we have the argument, you say the same thing to me, you give me the same three answers all the time, the same thing, “well, everybody has a job,” that’s always the last one. But, you know what else there is no more of, my friend, there is no more beauty, there is no more imagination, and there are no frontiers left to conquer, and do you know why? Only one reason why: one reason why, the same attitude that you three guys are giving me right here in this room today, and that is: nobody cares.”
Oddly whimsical tale of madness in space. With super adorable drones that I wanted to cuddle. Visual effects were pretty good for the time as it was a 70s film. Music though?
Odd Godspeed type warbling choice. Not what I would expect. But maybe just used to a different space sound. Funny Space Bros/Space Jerks.
Sort of Dark Star era of sci fi filmmaking so v DIY style which I like. Reminds me of Doctor Who. Overall quite odd but I liked it.
“I couldn’t help it, Charlie. I had to find out where I went wrong. The years I’ve spent trying to get all the things I was told were important – that I was supposed to want! Things! Not people… or meaning. Just things. And California was the same. They made the decisions for me all over again and they were the same things, really. It’s going to be different from now on. A new face and a name. I’ll do the rest. I know it’s going to be different. I suppose you do too.”
Watched Seconds, a 1966 film starring Rock Hudson. Started out with odd warped cinematography in places and also sort of confusing feel.
& for a bit you feel like this could be any film & then, SPOILERS, it turns into The Adjustment Bureau meets the worst pyramid scheme ever.
Really really good. Not like a lot of the recent films I’ve watched of late which are space & robots & aliens & dystopian futures.
More like sci fi plus horror plus thriller mixed into one. Good stuff.
“Well, the room’s spinning cause I drank too much, cause I wanted to get drunk and have sex. There was something sexy about that woman… cause I was lonely… maybe just cause I was lonely. I wanted somebody to fuck me. I want somebody to want me to fuck them. Maybe that would have filled this ti-… tiny little hole in my heart, but probably not… and sometimes I think I have felt everything I’m ever gonna feel, and from here on out I’m not gonna feel anything new… just… lesser versions of what I’ve already felt.”
Such a good film. Odd and heartbreaking and amazing. Well done Spike Jonze. Nothing else to say really! *claps*
“You’re capable of such beautiful dreams, and such horrible nightmares. You feel so lost, so cut off, so alone, only you’re not. See, in all our searching, the only thing we’ve found that makes the emptiness bearable, is each other.”
Stunning visuals. Jodie acting like a boss. Concept seemed unrealistic at times.
Happy that the two smart characters of the film were Jodie& Angela Bassett’s character. The men were imbeciles or Jodie’s pop.
Overall think it was decent. It deffo should have gotten more praise than independence day which exploded back in the day.
